Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing

Our family enjoys reading "Thought to Make Your Heart Sing" everyday at the lunch table. Not only are the entries engaging, but I find myself as an adult Christian being deeply effected with Sally Lloyd-Jones' refreshing look at the gospel - Jesus as our needed Rescuer and our ever-growing need for God. And the illustrations are truly beautiful and captivating!!! And though some of the entries are a bit over the head of our 2-yr-old, even he understand most of them with parental explaination. Our older children just treasure this book! Anyone interested in the theological content should take a look at the detailed bibliography at the end of this book. I think that most Christians would agree that a children's book that references C. S. Lewis, Tim Keller, Amy Carmichael, D. L. Moody, Charles Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards, Corrie ten Boom and Martin Luther for its content is not theology-light. Not to mention that its starts with God the Creator, man the sinner and Jesus the Rescuer. A sample entry: "What is love? Is it a feeling in your heart? The Bible says Love is much more: it is patient and kind, never bears a grudge, doesn't demand its own way, always wants the best for someone else, never puts itself first, never gets jealous, isn't proud, doesn't boast, isn't rude, always hopes, never stops. Oh dear, that's quite a list. Who can love like that? Only one. He left his father and his throne and came to live with us. And showed us what love was really like. I love this devotional. I will read a Bible story to my 5 and 7 yr old kids each night, and then a devotional from this book. I’ve been brought to tears several times. These devotions really do offer hope and point to Christ’s sacrifice and God’s love. My sister said the content was too hard for her kids (ages from 3 to 13) to grasp but I disagree. I tailor the concepts if needed, to my kids age level. This isn’t necessary all the time. I always engage the kids with questions and I may explain something a bit more if they don’t understand something. This book has been a good tool to evangelize my kids and teach them some deeper concepts, things they don’t get from reading Bible stories alone.

So many sweet, uplifting, thought provoking pages! Not too deep for little kids and deep enough for adults. Wish we'd all had to read to us as children. Great art too!

I think Sally did not write this and the others books with her name as the author. I think is God itself who writes them. What a gift He gave to her!!!!!! She explain every fact, every lovely God act in a simple, but deep way at the same time and in a way that I can't stop cry with every page and see how Jesus and His mother Holy Mary, love us. I feel peace in my heart; and feel hope!! I just love the way Sally writes! And Jago is an artist with that beautiful pictures.

Short and Lively Devotion for kids

Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing has been my current favourite read over the past few months! The pictures are delightful and the reflections, which are taken from scripture are sound and well applied. This is a book that can be used to read at breakfast time or before bed to help refocus hearts and minds on who God is and what He has done. (I have enjoyed reading the Bible passages around the verses reflected on too!) it is also one of those books that children will enjoy reading by themselves as part of their own personal time with Jesus. I really love this book - the thoughts in it make my heart sing as it is saturated with a deep understanding of the gospel and so clearly tells of God's love bought by Jesus but freely given to us.

After reading the first 3 days, I decided to approach my church youth pastor and ask if I could text the daily devotionals to the high school youth group. He thought it was an awesome idea. Then I thought why not include the parents. This would give them the opportunity to talk to their teens about the day and how the current devotional touched each of them. I believe families will be very blessed.

This book was intended for 6 to 9 year old children, but I am an adult and I love it. It is thoughtful, simple, encouraging truths from the Bible put into simple language that even a child could understand. It is the essence of Christianity and the heart of God written in a beautiful way that even a child can understand. The artwork is wonderful. Every page stands alone so if you wanted to use it as a devotional with kids, you could simply read a page a night. Each page has its own thought/topic. Its short but complete in thought and very positive and encouraging. It is a wonderful book to give as a gift or to simply enjoy.

A brilliantly written book of reflections/devotions/thought 'provokers' for the whole family. Each page has a new topic and a beautiful illustration. Each topic is short (a few lines or paragraphs) and easy to understand, even for younger children, but still with appeal for adults or older children because the words give you a way of understanding God's truth and purposes in a way everyone can relate to - such as, "how do you know when the king is in his castle? Because the flag is flying over the castle which tells you the king is at home. When Jesus comes to live in your heart, he brings with him his flag to fly over your life. Other people know that he is there because they can see your joy." If you're buying in the UK then be sure to get the anglicised edition.

Das Buch ist sehr schön. Die Texte kurz und bündig, immer ein Bibelvers dabei. Für uns gerade richtig.

I bought this as a christening gift for my god-daughter and couldn't have picked a better book. Some of the readings are so touching I cry reading them. Absolutely lovely.

Slightly disappointed with this. The thoughts are very short & a tad abstract at times. They do not keep my 5 year olds attention the way other devotionals do. The pictures are pretty but I don't think they are particularly appealing to kids.

Excelente libro para leer con los niños...y sin ellos también! Pensamientos basados en historias verdaderas, bíblicas y de autores reconocidos. Muy recomendable!!!
